Aerospace

The aerospace sector is one of the largest industries in the United Kingdom. It is the second largest in the world, behind the United States. It supplies both military and civil aerospace hardware around the world. About 97% of its domestic production is exported. More than 3,000 aerospace companies operate in the UK, providing over 120,000 skilled jobs.

Domestic companies include BAE Systems, Cobham, Rolls-Royce and Ultra Electronics. Non-domestic companies with a major presence include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin and Safran.

The aerospace industry covers the research, development, and manufacture of flight vehicles. This includes unpowered gliders, lighter-than-air craft, heavier-than-air craft (fixed-wing and rotary-wing), missiles and spacecraft. The UK commercial space industry is rapidly growing. It predicts to absorb 10% of the global space market by 2030.

The UK excels in the design and production of engines, helicopters and wings. The aerospace industry includes aircraft subsystems such as propulsion and avionics. It also produces support systems necessary for the testing and operation of flight vehicles. Unmanned aircraft (drones) are a growing sector. They are employed in multiple areas: emergency services, construction, oil & gas and more.

Unmanned aircraft allow for increased efficiency and lower costs. Drones are predicted to deliver significant benefits to the British economy and society.

In addition to manufacturing, the UK has a thriving maintenance, repair, and overhaul sector (MRO). There are over 1,300 companies involved in the MRO sector. These companies provide their services to huge numbers of aircraft every year. They employ over 57,000 people. Conro Electronics supports the aerospace industry with the latest soldering and coatings technology. Our AS 9120 accreditation certifies that all our products are reliable and high-quality. AS 9120 requires full traceability throughout the supply chain, as well as documentation and inventory control.
