Dispensing Tips
Dispensing tips are one of the most important parts in a fluid dispensing system. They are available in a variety of lengths, shapes, sizes and materials. Each one is suited to specific dispensing applications. General purpose tips can dispense nearly any kind of fluid. However, they are not always the best choice for specific uses.
Each assembly fluid has certain properties to consider. Knowing these properties makes it easier to select the right type of dispensing tip. Viscosity of the liquid is an especially important factor. Using the wrong tip can increase rework, defects and cycle rates. This leads to poor quality and decreased efficiency.
Conro offers a wide choice of dispensing tips from major manufacturers such as Metcal and Nordson.
Conro is an authorized distributor for Metcal.
Types of dispensing tips
Some of the most common types of dispensing tips are:
- Tapered tips. Useful for medium to high viscosity liquids. Tapered tips promote flow. This helps dispense a greater number of precise deposits in a short time. They are ideal for filled materials, like solder paste or conductive adhesives. Tapered tips are made from polypropylene. They are UV-blocking, to prevent UV-cure materials from solidifying inside the needle.
- PTFE-lined tips. Ideal for dispensing low-viscosity fluids. PTFE coating makes them resistant to clogging and wicking outside of the needle. Especially suited for use with solvents and thin cyanoacrylates.
- Blunt end stainless steel tips. Extremely versatile. They can be used with a wide variety of low-to-high viscosity fluids. These include adhesives, epoxies, greases, oils, paints, solvents and more. Available in different sizes and lengths and in angled or crimped options (for hard to reach areas).
- Large gauge stainless steel tips. The larger size provides higher flow rates and chemical resistance. A longer needle allows to dispense in hard to reach areas. Ideal for higher pressure dispensing.
- Flexible tips. Made from polypropylene. Their softness prevents scratching when the needle comes in contact with the work surface. Ideal to dispense liquid in hard to reach areas.
