Solvent Based Adhesives

Solvent based adhesives are adhesives that use solvents as a carrier to deliver the bonding agent. They are one of the most commonly used types of adhesives, thanks to their suitability to different substrates, both porous and non-porous. Additionally, solvent based adhesives are highly resistant to UV exposure, high temperatures, water and chemicals, making them a popular choice for applications that require resistance to harsh environments.

Solvent based adhesives create a strong, permanent bond between two surfaces once the solvent dries. They are easier to apply compared to most water based adhesives and can be applied in a variety of ways, including spray, roll, brush or coating. Their properties make them suitable to applications ranging from packaging to automotive, from the paper industry to the medical sector.

At ConRo Electronics, we provide a variety of solvent based adhesives from top quality brands such as Henkel Teroson.

Conro Electronics is an authorized distributor for Henkel.

Types of solvent based adhesives

Due to the disparate needs of producers across a wide variety of industries, there are many different types of solvent based adhesives that are tailored to particular applications. The main types are:

  • Solvent based acrylic adhesives. Very resistant to chemicals, solvents and high temperatures. Their downside is that they offer an inferior bonding strength compared to other adhesives.
  • Solvent based polyurethane adhesives. They offer durable, strong adhesion to most materials, excluding bare metal. They are also characterised by their flexibility and good solvent and chemical resistance.
  • Solvent based rubber adhesives. Used for high-strength bonding on a wide range of substrates, including leather and polyurethanes. They have high chemical and water resistance and can be removed with relative ease if permanent bonding is not desired.
  • Solvent based pressure sensitive adhesives. They provide quick and easy bonding through the application of pressure. They can have either acrylic or polyurethane formulations.
