Potting Compounds
Potting compound resins provide a permanent protective solution for electronics that are meant to face challenging environmental influences. These can include mechanical shock, humidity, dust and heat. By filling a complete electronics assembly, potting compounds protects components from damage and ensure the safety of the product.

Types of potting compounds
A wide range of potting compound resins is available, to meet the specific needs of every application:
- Epoxy. Epoxy resins offer outstanding mechanical strength and chemical resistance and provide long-term protection against moisture. Their qualities make them perfect for outdoor applications where durability is required. Their downside is a limited flexibility.
- Polyacrylate. Often used to protect components from contact with oil and water, polyacrylates are common in the automotive industry.
- Silicone. Silicone compounds offer the highest flexibility and excellent protection from moisture. They are also highly resistant to heat, making them perfect for high temperature applications (up to 200°C). Their downside as a low mechanical strength.
- Urethane. Urethane and polyurethane compounds offer a “middle ground” between epoxies and silicones, with a good balance of strength and elasticity. Their working temperatures, however, need to remain below 125°C.
Potting compounds are available in 1-part and 2-part formulations. All potting compounds cure by generating a reaction between the resin and a hardener. In 2-part compounds, the hardener is provided as a separate component, requiring mixing before application.
