Acetone is an effective solvent for many plastics and synthetic fibers. It's used to thin polyester resin, clean associated tools, and dissolve two-part epoxies and superglue before they harden. As a volatile component in some paints and varnishes, acetone serves as a heavy-duty degreaser, prepping metal for painting or soldering, and removing rosin flux after soldering. However, it can damage many electronic components, making it unsuitable for cleaning most circuit boards. Despite being flammable, acetone is widely used to safely transport and store acetylene by dissolving it. One liter of acetone can dissolve around 250 liters of acetylene at 10 bars of pressure.
